Proceed with Caution

image:
"Proceed with Caution" was an installation meant to simulate the transitional procession of entering into nature. But once within the viewer is focused, as the alligators are, upon the deflated empty nest. The loss of their food resource highlights the environmental issues: algae blooms and salt water intrusion. The encroaching salt water and floating dead sea grasses allude to these issues as well. The overall sensation is of surprise at the beauty and wonder that being in the midst of nature can engender. This is meant to inspire the viewer to see the value of the Everglades and Cypress Swamp and want to preserve it. Most of the materials used are up-cycled materials: bottle glass (cast, blown, fused, slumped, flame worked, and crushed), and wood pallets. Additional materials include: wood, plexiglass, light tape, mylar, and plant matter.
